SIMPSON RE-TAPES RENDITION OF SONG

Jessica Simpson was forced to re-tape her performance of Dolly Parton’s hit 9 TO 5 late on Sunday night (03DEC06) after botching her first live run-through at the Kennedy Center Honors. The singer/actress, who was one of the stars paying tribute to Parton, relied heavily on cue cards and became visibly distraught when she flubbed a line during the song. According to her publicist Cindi Berger, Simpson was “overcome with emotion” while singing for her idol Parton. Berger explains, “She wanted the song to be perfect, and she got upset with herself when it wasn’t.” After finishing the performance, Simpson said, “Dolly, you make me so nervous. I can’t even sing the words right” and left the stage to no applause. Berger claims Simpson asked the show’s producers if she could have another chance to sing the song properly for the broadcast, which airs in the US on 26 December (06).
