First, former Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari was linked with Jessica Simpson’s ex-husband – and now she’s being eyed for Simpson’s movie role.

Bill Gerber, the producer of last year’s The Dukes of Hazzard, tells PEOPLE in its new issue that he is working on a prequel to the movie that brought Simpson (and her rear view) film fame – and he thinks Cavallari, 19, would fill out those Daisy Duke shorts quite nicely.

“She’s at the top of the list,” he says. “I like her innocence and her beauty.”

Why not just stick with Simpson, 25? “It’s a prequel, like Batman (Begins),” he says. “We’re going for a whole new cast.”

Simpson and husband Nick Lachey, 32, announced in November 2005 that they were separating. In March, Lachey and Cavallari were spotted flirting at various restaurants and parties – although Cavallari told PEOPLE, “There’s nothing to talk about, there’s nothing going on. He’s a nice guy, but I’d have to say we’re just friends.”

Reps for Cavallari and Simpson did not return calls.

I really hope they don’t choose Kristin – Jessica is way better!

If you recall, after two years Jessica’s best friend CaCee Cobb resigned from her role as the singer’s assistant to pursue a showbiz career.
US Weekly magazine claimed that Cobb was fired after Simpson felt she was too close to Lachey. Their source said: “Insiders know she was fired.”

Simpson struck back at those reports with her spokesperson explaining, “CaCee and Jessica will remain close friends. And CaCee will continue to assist Jess until the end of the month.”

Still, the doubts remained. However, Jess and CaCee are obviously still best buddies despite the rumored reports of a rift as they were spotted giggling over cocktails at the GQ/Calvin Klein celebrity poker tourney.

Whether it was a case of embarrassingly severe indigestion or a show of sheer diva-ness, Simpson supposedly commanded her bodyguards to close off the commode for her private personal use while at dinner at Mr Chow’s restaurant in Beverly Hills.
Fellow female patrons were left fuming as they were forced to cross their legs and wait while the prima donna did her business.
Since her name has been covering the pages of tabloids for months with everything from her messy divorce with Nick Lachey to rumours of sibling rivalry with little sis Ashlee and supposed scraps with party girl Lindsay Lohan, one would think Simpson would try to be discreet where she could. Guess that even taking a leak is publicity for a pop princess.

Jessica Simpson was reportedly so hurt by Nick Lachey’s interview to Rolling Stone magazine that she wants revenge.

Apparently, the fact that Nick Lachey suggested that Jessica Simpson had an affair when they were married made Jessica angry.

Earlier this year Jessica Simpson turned down the chance to shine on the cover of Vanity Fair only because she didn’t want to talk about her failed marriage. However, now Jessica thinks about telling her side of story, IN TOUCH reports, perhaps on a TV show.

Most likely, Jessica plans to talk about the much-rumoured romance Nick Lachey presumably had with MTV host Vanessa Minnillo last year, when “Newlyweds” were still married. Jessica Simpson filed for divorce three months after photos of Nick Lachey flirting with sultry brunette were published.

“It’s a painful subject,” says a friend close to Jessica Simpson, “It’s tarnishing her happier memories of her marriage.”

Jessica Simpson has apparently be overheard saying that she is tired of being single and coming home to no-one at the end of the night.

More magazine quote a source who overheard the actress saying: “I’m tired of being alone. I have no one to come home to, no one to call at the end of the night.

“I’m travelling all over the place by myself. When I was with Nick, I had someone who understood what I was going through.”

Ashlee and sister Jessica Simpson are barely on speaking terms these days, a published report claims. The reason, Ashlee is jealous of her sister’s successes.

A report from Star Magazine claims, “There’s been a lifelong rivalry,” citing a source close to the Simpson family.

“You’ve got two driven young women, both clamoring for attention.”

No question of that – they both are marketable so attention is needed. But is Ashlee really jealous? Star gives these details online.

“I think she feels her parents, especially her dad, Joe, have always favored Jessica, and she’s sick of it.”

Sources say Jess is already livid over Ashlee’s copycat look. And it’s set to get worse because, another source reports, Ashlee may consider more surgery! “She’d love to have a pair of ‘sit up and take notice’ breasts, which is what Jess has,” the source says.

Career Catfight:

Wanting what Jess has isn’t limited to her looks, the Star claims.

“Ashlee would love to star in movies like her sister,” says the family source. Unfortunately, while Jess’ film, The Dukes of Hazzard, scored $80 million at the box office, Ashlee’s indie dud, Undiscovered, made only $1 million.

Jess also sells more records than Ashlee (6 million to 4 million).

In an effort to one-up her sister, Ashlee, who unlike Jess writes many of her own songs, “brags constantly about how she’s a natural-born musician and Jess isn’t,” the source reports. “She’s the first to let you know she’s more talented!”

The report does say that Jessica is trying to make peace – but for now Ash will have none of it, according to the report.

Here we go again. In Hollywood – it’s no fun without a catfight and reportedly there is one brewing between the young and beautiful Kristin Cavallari and her would-be rival Jessica Simpson.

And guess what the battle is over – why Nick Lachey of course.

A report claims that it’s “not over between Nick and Kristin.”

So what does Kristin do – slams Jessica. “Kristin thinks Jessica is pathetic for wearing Nick’s ring around her neck, like she’s in high school,” an insider dishes to the American tabloid ‘The Enquirer.’

Tough talk from the nineteen year-old.

Another source reveled to the magazine that Kristin was loudly making fun of Jess at LA’s Enterprise Fish Co. (so loud it could be easily overheard the report reads). “She said Jessica’s a bad actress” and was mocking that “silly new red hairstyle.”

The funny thing about the report – Nick reportedly sent a text message to Kristin to join him at the LA hot spot Mood, but due to the crackdown of underage drinking at LA clubs the youngster couldn’t get in.

Seems as if Jess has the last laugh on this one for more than one reason. Kristin can’t go clubbing and Jess has removed her ring from and one report claims she will auction it off for her charity ‘Operation Smile.’

While everyone has been holding their breath waiting for Jessica Simpson and estranged hubbie Nick Lachey to have the make-up scene of the century, the curvy actress seems to have found someone else to fill the void.. and make her laugh at the same time.
It’s a potent combination few lonely girls could resist.

The inevitable movie co-star love interest scenario seems to be in play for pop singer Simpson and comedian Dane Cook, her co-star in “Employee Of The Month”, a comedy about a guy who competes to become the employee of the month at his store outlet because sexy new transferee Simpson only dates those EOM guys.

So having a fella like Cook, who is a good-natured, good-looking funny man with an apparent desire for a large family, getting paid to pursue you on film, we aren’t surprised a nice down-home megastar like Simpson finds him attractive.

According to the rumor mill, however, Cook already has a girlfriend, Valli Girls lead singer, sexy brunette Raquel Houghton. He has apparently told Houghton, however, that Simpson has a “crush” on him, but that he doesn’t return the feelings. But according to insiders, Cook is apparently seeing Simpson behind her back.

Says the National Enquirer, “Dane is pulling off the snow job of the century on Jessica and Raquel. He’s been seeing Jessica regularly since they returned from filming Employee of the Month in New Mexico and yet goes home to Raquel every night.

Whilst a source adds, “Dane managed to smooth things over with Raquel. He tells her that Jessica has a puppy love crush on him and that will blow over soon. Dane’s having his cake and eating it, too.”

Interesting choice of words. The movie, which should be a good date night hoot, is due to be released on September 29. We can see for ourselves if the sparks do fly.

Jessica Simpson has made plans to auction off her 3.5 carat wedding ring and donate the proceeds to charity a published report claims. The blonde actress and singer had recently been shown still wearing the ring around her neck, but no more.

The report says the ring is off her neck and set for auction.

According to Mike Walker – the proceeds from the ring will go to Jessica’s favorite charity that she works so hard to promote – Operation Smile.

The report claims that Jessica called Nick personally to warn him that she was selling the ring for charity. “Nick flipped out,” an insider revealed. “He pleaded with her to meet so they could discuss it.”

Now apparently Jessica did agree to meet, but she refused to give up on her charitable contribution. In fact – according to Walker – if the pair just happens top reconcile, she will want a new ring for a fresh start.

Nick is not happy – as he now realizes that some stranger could end up with Jessica’s ring.

Walker is also reporting in his “all the gossip” column that the ring will be auctioned off on eBay. No word on when the auction kicks off – but if this is accurate – the press release will come.
