Singer/actress Jessica Simpson was mortified when she screen-tested for two parts in the big screen re-make of the classic TV show Dallas and didn’t get either one of them. Media reports claimed the star was in line to land the role of sexy Lucy Ewing, but the Dukes Of Hazzard star failed to impress film-makers with her acting skills. Simpson claims singing comes naturally to her, but acting is another story saying, “I never thought I would see myself on the big screen. That, to me, was something so unreachable.” She says she auditioned for the part but “couldn’t really pull it off… They wanted me to come back for Pam Ewing. They saw me as something more mature, and as a woman. “I really thought I nailed it and had a chemistry read with Luke Wilson, who was playing BOBBY. “All of a sudden I get a call: not Pam. Everyone was saying I was going to be in Dallas, and I didn’t get the part. I did not get it. How embarrassing is that?”

Jessica Simpson has around 100 journals detailing her most intimate thoughts which the security conscious singer/actress gives to trusted friends to look after. The 26-year-old admits keeping a journal is a risky thing for a superstar to do as she would be devastated if it was leaked to the media. However, Simpson considers writing about her experiences therapeutic. She tells US chat show host Jimmy Kimmel, “Some nights I write in pencil, some nights I write in pen. Some nights I know what I write I’m gonna want to erase. “I have about 100 and go through one (journal) every five months. It’s the only way to get to know myself. “I keep them at a couple of friends’ houses. Just in case something were to happen I have them locked up in certain places. My little treasure chests.”

She’s a pop singer, a pinup-worthy beauty and a paparazzi favorite, but Jessica Simpson insists she’s just “a normal girl.”

With her fifth album in stores, a new music video on the way and a movie opening Friday, normal might be a stretch.

At least in real life. On the big screen, she plays a very normal discount-store cashier in “Employee of the Month.”

The role is an intentional departure from her sexy stint as Daisy Duke in last year’s “Dukes of Hazzard.” But, says the 26-year-old starlet, it also represents a new grown-up chapter in her life as she learns to take charge of her career, her future and herself.

“I’m kind of doing it by doses and, along the way, figuring myself out and learning to belong to myself, learning to be committed to myself,” she says. “I see a lot of change in my life right now. I’m really grasping hold of what I want for the first time.”

Jessica Simpson struck up a friendship with her best pal Ken Paves when he rescued her from a serious hair trauma. Simpson was devastated when a bleaching job went horribly wrong and her record label sent her to hairstylist Paves to rescue her crowning glory. She says, “My hair was, like, to my waist. I was a Texas girl. “It was, like, long hair that was only processed with Aqua Net and highlights. And somebody bleached it, and then they had to cut it because everything broke off. “All of a sudden, my record label completely freaked out and called. They were like, ‘Who does extensions? This guy named Ken. He does J.Lo. You’re going to him tonight.’”

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer were spotted at the posh Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Monday night, just weeks after their brief relationship reportedly ended. Mayer was staying at the hotel and chatting up various women in the bar, when Simpson arrived and met up with old friend and producer Romeo Antonio, who has written several songs for her.

According to entertainment news website TMZ.com, when Antonio excused himself to go to the men’s room, Mayer followed him and asked whether there was anything romantic going on between him and Simpson. Antonio said there was not. Mayer then went back to the bar and spoke with Simpson for 10 minutes before the pair exited together and took the elevator upstairs to Mayer’s room. The couple were romantically linked last month after Simpson appeared on the cover of American publication People with the headline, “I’m In Love,” referring to her reported relationship with Mayer.
