Since Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson on the eve of her 29th birthday, “She’s a little depressed,” says a Simpson family friend.

“She takes breakups really badly,” adds another source close to Simpson. “She has a hard time letting go.”

So far, Simpson has been coping with the split by living a low-key life and seeking solace with her parents, who “encourage her to go out and have a good time, like she did this week,” says the Simpson family friend.

July 21, 2009: Jessica was pictured leaving a West Hollywood gym after a workout session with her personal trainer yesterday afternoon. Jessica wasn’t her usual cheerful self, looking a bit down as she walked to her car. But who can blame her, she’s just split with her boyfriend and no-one wants paparazzi in their face when they’re going through something like that.

Although Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, former spouses and stars of the reality show Newlyweds, now find themselves suddenly single at the same time, Lachey insists there is no reunion planned.

“I think it’s fun storytelling, but there’s very little truth to any of it,” the singer told PEOPLE at a party at Dusk at the Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City Saturday night. “I certainly have heard about her breakup and I wish her the best, as I’ve always done. Aside from that, there really is nothing to say.”

So has he reached out to his ex-wife since her sudden split with Tony Romo? “I haven’t talked to her in probably two years,” Lachey says. “I wish her happiness. That’s where it pretty much ends.”

Jessica is keeping a low profile since splitting with Tony Romo. “She is still with her family,” says a source close to Simpson, who is thought to be holed up at her parents’ house in Encino, Calif. “She is surrounding herself with a network of support.”

Simpson will eventually have to come out of hiding in August when she starts working on her new VH1 series The Price of Beauty, in which she will chronicle the extreme lengths women go to maintain their looks.

Although Jessica Simpson’s family and close friends have always been incredibly supportive, one thing they will not support, is the thought of Jess reconciling with her ex-husband Nick Lachey, who recently split from his girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo. “It won’t happen,” says a source. “They have no respect for him. Jessica has no respect for him. There is way too much bad blood between Nick and Joe for Jessica to even think about it.”

According to new reports, Jessica Simpson is having a hard time coming to grips with being dumped a day before her 29th birthday.

“Jessica was really blindsided,” says a Simpson family friend. “She’s sad, mad, and confused. Her emotions are all over the place.”

Another source close to Simpson tells People.com that “it’s been difficult lately” for the pair, who first started dating in November, 2007.

Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo have split. A source close to Simpson said Romo broke up with her on Thursday, the night before her 29th birthday.

“She is heartbroken,” says the source. “She loves Tony. But it’s been difficult lately. He’s busy with his career and she’s getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways.”

Simpson had planned to throw a Barbie and Ken-themed party for her birthday, but it fell through, according to a message she wrote on her Twitter page Saturday. “Barbie party didn’t happen, but I turned 29 and feel like I am on top of the world yelling I LOVE GETTING OLDER!” she wrote.
