Jessica Simpson is fighting mad over a recent OK! magazine article claiming she was dumped by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

TMZ.com first reported that Simpson’s lawyers had fired off a strongly-worded letter demanding a retraction for an article which claims Romo broke up with the singer because she was high-maintenance.

The letter referred to the article as a “smear campaign.” Her lawyers insist: “Mr Romo and Ms Simpson have not broken off their romantic relationship.”

Just when it seemed like Jessica Simpson and her quarterback hunk Tony Romo might not go the distance, the two were spotted cavorting together on a seemingly romantic hunting trip over the weekend in Texas.

But now OK! has learned all might not be well just yet as insiders say the trip was a last-ditch effort to save their relationship.

On Jan. 17, Tony called Jessica at her L.A. home to try to break things off. “He said he thought it was better if they went back to being friends,” a pal of the singer tells OK!. “‘Just friends’ is not in Jessica’s vocabulary, and she is not a victim. She knows how bad this will look in the media.”

Jessica has dismissed reports she is to duet with her boyfriend Tony Romo. The Texan singer is currently recording a country album in Nashville, Tennessee, and was allegedly interested in bringing her Dallas Cowboys beau into the studio to join her behind the mic. But Jessica’s representative, Lauren Auslander, has denied the claims. She tells TheCelebrityTruth.com, “There are no plans for them to do this.”

Jessica apparently wants to record a country duet with her American football star boyfriend Tony Romo.

The Texan singer is currently recording her next LP with a country twist, and she has asked the Dallas Cowboys quarterback to join her behind the mic.

A source tells the National Enquirer, “Jessica has been schooled in publicity tricks by her manager dad, Joe, and she knows that a duet with Tony will attract major attention.”

Jessica’s manager-father Joe has hit out at reports he sparked the media frenzy surrounding the singer’s new romance with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Jessica enjoyed a festive break in Los Cabos, Mexico, with Romo and her parents, but she has since been berated by Dallas Cowboys fans for putting their star player off his game, following his team’s loss on Sunday to the Giants.

New rumors claim the blonde beauty’s dad Joe was the one who alerted the press to the stars’ whereabouts.

Eva Longoria has some advice for her friend Jessica Simpson. Both have lost their hearts to “No. 9″ Texas Tonys, People.com points out. And both have been called a jinx for their pro athlete beaus.

“When I first started dating Tony, I got the same flak,” Longoria told People about now-husband Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs. “If he had a bad game, it was my fault … if he had a good game, it wasn’t because of me.”

Dear Dallas and Surrounding Areas,

This isn’t a sports blog, and it isn’t a publicity stunt. (but have at me if it feels right.)

This is about doing what I think is right as a person, in this case speaking my mind.

I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas. I don’t really follow sports, but I have played some of my biggest and best concerts in your state, and having witnessed how dynamic the spirit there is, I’m betting emotions are running high right about now.

All witty barbs, blogs, and fashion policing aside, that girl loves Texas more than you know. It’s one of her most defining traits as a person. So please don’t try and take that away from her. (You probably wouldn’t be able to, but it’s less work for all involved.)

I just thought it would mean something coming from the guy who has the absolute least to gain from this. And if I’m out of line in having written it, too bad. I can spare a Wednesday’s worth of bad press if it means sticking up for a good soul.

Jessica looked gorgeous in blue as she walked the red carpet at Operation Smiles’ 25th Annual Gala, a charity she has been involved with for years. In addition to attending the event, which was held in New York City on Thursday night, Jessica has been apartment-hunting in Manhattan.
