Jess and John’s Last Days Together

Tensions were so high on Jessica Simpson and John Mayer’s Memorial Day Weekend vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, that the two couldn’t stand to sleep next to each other.

“Jessica and John were horribly fighting in Mexico,” a source tells Usmagazine.com. “They were supposed to go out to dinner one night but stayed in because they were fighting and didn’t want to be seen in public.”

The source added: “They didn’t even sleep in the same bed for at least the last night!”

The couple were photographed having a Jacuzzi-side fight on May 26 that left the both of them in tears. Finally, Mayer stormed inside. Simpson, said an onlooker, “put her head in her hands. She seemed really sad.”

Of course, the getaway did have its high points. A fellow vacationer at the Villas Del Mar hotel spotted the two partaking in water sports the day after the blow up. The witness tells Usmagazine.com, “John got off a Jet Ski, and Jess said, ‘Have fun, sweetheart. I love you!”

But the good times weren’t enough to keep the pair from cutting their vacation short a day early and returning to the United States.

And a final blow out over the phone on June 3 likely ended things for good.

“They appear to have split,” confirms a Simpson source.

The couple of eight months originally parted ways on May 18 — only to reunite two days later in NYC. “It was not an immediate breakup,” says a source close to the couple. “They have been talking over the last few weeks. He still cares for her a great deal which is why it took a while to talk [things out].”

The source dismisses rumors that Mayer, 29, dumped Simpson, 26, because he’s a commitment phobe. “He does not have commitment issues. They are just very different people and the differences came through.”

The insider also says that the singers’ packed schedules had a hand in the separation. “He is busy on tour now and she is doing her music. He comes to LA this weekend and while she may come to his shows, I think for now it is safe to say they are split up.”

Meanwhile, Simpson may be ready to move on. Last weekend she attended a concert by Maroon 5 – featuring one-time beau Adam Levine. She also took time to let loose on June 5 when she went to L.A. hot spot Celedon. She joined her friend Mary Phillips for a “girls night.”

Reps for Mayer and Simpson say, “We don’t comment on our client’s personal lives.”
